Winter, Jon Snow has been warning for several seasons, is coming. In fact, Game of Thrones season seven saw the long night arrive in style, as a snowflake fell in King’s Landing and, in the north, an ice dragon destroy the Wall. With plummeting temperatures, is it really that surprising that the most recent season of HBO’s fantasy drama was also the least naked we’ve seen yet? Well, yes. Because nudity, specifically sexual nudity, has always been an integral part of Game of Thrones’ offering. As Ian McShane, who appeared in the show, summed up to The Telegraph: “it’s only tits and dragons”.
Broadly has been keeping track of every instance of death, rape, and nudity on GoT. Since Season 8 will only have six episodes, it’s likely that Season 1 is going to retain its title as the most nude season. (Season 1 also tied Season 4 for the most rapes.) However, Season 2 had the highest female ratio, with every nude body being female and none male. Women have better luck when it comes to staying alive, though, with Broadly’s count of onscreen deaths showing only 5.8 percent of them have been women.

That Game of Thrones sex scene between Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) was just as awkward for the actors as it was for viewers watching nephew and aunt getting it on. Director Jeremy Podeswa tells Newsweek that Harington—who is dating former GoT co-star Rose Leslie (Ygritte, of “You know nothing Jon Snow” fame)—and Clarke definitely felt a bit uncomfortable filming their boat sex scene in Sunday’s finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf.” “There was a bit of awkwardness going into this scene for Kit and Emilia as they are close friends, but they are also both so good humored and professional that the process of shooting was very easy,” Podeswa says. “We also shot it quite simply—I believe it’s only three shots.”

Season seven of “Game of Thrones” had its issues, but in the end it was satisfying. But you might’ve noticed that it didn’t feel like other seasons of the show. And that might have to do with its lack of nudity. There was nudity, of course, especially with Jon Snow’s behind being the star of the finale. But compared to the other seasons, the nudity dropped substantially.

Season 6 scaled it back slightly with 22 baring all, but by the time we reached Season 7, only six Thrones stars shared their assets. Thankfully, at least Season 7 closed the gender divide with 50% of nudes being men and 50% being women, but we have been left a little sex starved.
